The Doors to the Demonic

You wouldn’t believe how many times I’ve been asked such questions as “I believe in God. What’s wrong with looking at my horoscope every once in a while?” “What’s the harm in wearing crystal bracelets to ward off negativity?” “What’s wrong with going to a fortune teller just for fun?” or “What’s wrong with trying out chakras?”

Throughout Scripture, God issues warnings against seeking any sort of guidance apart from Him. Many of the practices we will talk about may seem harmless, but they open doors that give the devil access to your life. In Colossians 2:2–8, Paul says it this way:

My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I tell you this so that no one may deceive you with fine-sounding arguments. For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how disciplined you are and how firm your faith in Christ is. So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.

In other words, in Jesus, you find everything you need. In Jesus, there’s no need to search out other methods or mysteries to try to find answers. God is the author of wisdom, and as His child in Jesus, you have full access to Him. Hebrews 4:14–16 says,

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

So, whatever you’re going through that’s tempting you to seek answers outside of God, just know that any answers you receive outside of Jesus are a counterfeit to the truth. The reason God issues these warnings is to protect you from deception. He wants what’s best for you. That’s why He sent Jesus to save you. God also knows that seeking wisdom from any of the following practices will lead you down a dangerous path—which is exactly where the enemy wants you.
