Humility is the Magnet for God’s Favor

Humility is the Magnet for God’s Favor

If you want to enjoy God’s favor, it is absolutely necessary that you walk in humility. God resists the proud, but shows grace, mercy, and favor to the humble. The humble man depends on the grace and favor of God. The humble man knows he cannot succeed without God’s favor. The humble man recognizes his need for God’s favor. While we all say we want the favor of God, we need to examine ourselves to make sure we are not repelling the favor of God.

Pride is one of the most difficult demons to defeat. In Job 41, pride is manifested as the spirit of Leviathan, a ruling spirit that causes people to be stubborn and stiff-necked (v. 22). Job 41 says Leviathan’s scales are his pride. No air can come between them. Air represents spirit, and one of the manifestations of pride is the inability to flow in the Spirit. When we are proud, rebellious, and unwilling to submit to the authority of God, we limit the flow of the Spirit and cut ourselves off from receiving God’s favor.

The Bible says the Israelites could not go into the Promised Land because they were stiff- necked, stubborn, and disobedient. That whole generation died in the wilderness. When forty years had passed, Joshua and Caleb and the new generation of God’s people went in. God does not give His promises to stiff-necked, stubborn, rebellious, hard-hearted, proud, disobedient people. It does not work. It will never work.

For God sets Himself against the proud (the insolent, the overbearing,

the disdainful, the presumptuous, the boastful)—[and

He opposes, frustrates, and defeats them], but gives grace (favor, blessing) to the humble. —1 PETER 5:5, AMPC

Pride will cause you to lose the favor of God. Saul rebelled and lost favor. Israel rebelled and lost favor. Pride and rebellion will repel the favor of God from your life. Again, God resists the proud but gives grace (favor) to the humble.

When you fast, you are led to humility that brings favor.
Fasting has always been a way to seek the help of God during times of crisis, but it is also a way to attract the favor of God. Psalm 35:13 connects fasting with humility: “But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sack cloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom” (KJV). You can humble your soul through fasting, and as your soul is humbled, you attract the favor of God.

Many would not connect favor to submission, but they are related. Submission is a sign of humility. This also means that submission as a manifestation of humility is a key to favor. In Philippians 4:19 Paul gave a promise to the Philippians after they supported and blessed his ministry. He told them, “My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (KJV). You get favor when you bless men and women of God. Pride will cut the flow of favor from your life. As we resist pride and walk in humility, we will see the favor of God poured out on our lives.
