How to Flow with the Rivers of Living Water
You Have Been Given the Authority
To walk in third-heaven authority, it is vital that we learn to discern the flow of God's power and tap into it. When we do, our prayers become ignited.
In the kingdom of God, spiritual authority flow from heaven, where Christ is seated far above all principality and power, down to us on earth below. It's much like the flow of power in the military. Orders come from the top down. Imagine if you were a military leader and had direct access to the commander in chief. Better yet, imagine if the one at the top, the one with the most power, authorized you to carry his same top-down authority. Imagine how much easier it would be to accomplish your mission. We have the authorization from the supreme commander in chief of the universe! Christ has given us His authority from above in the heavenly place, where we are seated right next to Him, and it flows down from the realm of the spirit through us to the realm of the natural.
First Peter 1:3-5 is a great verification of this:
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
The passage tells us that through Jesus' resurrection, we are given an inheritance in heaven, where we are seated with Christ, that is "Kept by the power of God through faith." Faith is a key here. Remember, God exists outside of time. So does the eternal realm. What is the future to us, is the present with God. Thus, we are seated with Christ now and have His authority now. By faith we see it and apply it to our current realities.
The Flow of the Spiritual and Natural Realms
The spiritual realm is the parent to the natural realm. Everything first takes place in the unseen realm of the spirit, which eventually gives birth to the things that are visible in the physical realm. When we take our authority in the spirit, we will ultimately see the effects in the natural.
This flow of authority from heaven above to earth below and from the spirit realm to the natural realm is revealed in Jesus' teaching on prayer in Matthew 6. Often referred to as the Lord's Prayer, this familiar passage begins: "Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come; Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven" (vv. 9-10, MEV). In this simple but profound teaching on prayer, Jesus conveys the source and proper flow of authority -from heaven to earth and from the unseen spiritual realm to the natural realm.
Tapping into this flow of authority that is rightfully ours will ignite prayers like the flow of electricity through jumper cables sparks an engine, or the forceful flow of waters rushing through a dam generates electrical power to light up a city. Whether you are praying for yourself, your family, your friends, your city, or your nation, your prayers can change environments and situations when you tap the Source in the spirit where transformation is released.
Exercising this authority is certainly critical now, but it's going to become even more so as we move into the future. In the days to come, those who take full advantage of their God-given authority to wage spiritual warfare will be the ones who trample the enemy and live in victory. Before Christ's return, the activity in the second heaven will increase greatly. There will be heightened actions on both sides. The devil's kingdom will be hard at work bringing darkness, despair, and deception while God's kingdom simultaneously will be manifesting light and glory. Demonic activity will increase, but so will angelic activity.
Even now, we are seeing both light and darkness at work all across the world. Thousands of years ago, Isaiah prophesied about this time in history.
For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the lord will arise over you, and HIs glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. -Isaiah 60:2-3
