Why Jesus' Authority Exceeds All Others

Why Jesus' Authority Exceeds All Others

The Position of Third-Heaven Authority

Most believers today have a limited understanding of their spiritual authority because they are operating in what I call linear authority. That is thinking on a linear, horizontal level when exercising spiritual authority.  When we pray for others from this perspective, we often see results simply because we are being obedient to take authority over the devil as Jesus instructed us to do.  But there is a higher level of authority.

In Luke 10, for example, Jesus commissioned the seventy disciples to go into every city and announce the coming of God's kingdom.  After fulfilling their assignment, the disciples returned to Jesus rejoicing that the devils were subject to His name.  In response to their excitement, Jesus said, "Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy" (Luke 10:19).  Here, Jesus was revealing to His disciples the magnificent authority His name carried and how it can manifest when they were ministering to others.

I have seen God graciously do incredible things through me as I walked in this linear type of authority. I've seen numerous people born again, healed, and set free.  If someone asks for prayer, I simply lay hands on them, and they recover.  Whenever I'm obedient to take authority over the enemy in a person's life as Jesus instructed His disciples to do, powerful results follow.

Third-heaven authority operates by the same principle. It can be described as having a perspective of looking down from the higher heavenly position to the lower spiritual and earthly levels.  It is exercising authority from Jesus' position in heaven as He is seated above all.  This authority flows from a revelation of the ultimate authority Jesus carries and that we are positioned in Him through the new birth.

As I began to understand the weightiness of Jesus' supreme position about all, I launched a deeper study into scriptures regarding this topic.  Here are just some of the passages that declare His position above all.

Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let Your glory be above all the earth. - PSALM 57:5

For You, O Lord, are Most High above all the earth; You are exalted far above all gods. -PSALM 97:9, MEV

He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.  -JOHN 3:31, MEV

Which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.  -EPHESIANS 1:20-21,

One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. - EPHESIANS 4:6, MEV

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Chris is, sitting at the right hand of God.  Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. -COLOSSIANS 3:1-2

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and come down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. -JAMES 1:17

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.  -JAMES 3:17

These passages clearly reveal the powerful truth of Christ's exalted position. He is seated above all, ruling and reigning from a place of supreme authority, power, might, and dominion.  There is no power greater. No name can be exalted or elevated above His.  No situation or demonic force is greater than He is.  Everything is underneath Him, for He is truly above all!
