No, the World Isn’t Falling Apart

No, the World Isn’t Falling Apart

The world is not falling apart; the world is falling into place. We are living in the best days of recorded history.

You may wonder how I can make such a statement. I can hear your protests: “Look around. Don’t you see the injustice throughout the world, the decline of common courtesy and social graces, the lack of respect for one person toward another, the greed, the corruption, the sheer evil of human trafficking, drug addiction, gang rule, and more?

O LORD, how long shall I cry, and You will not hear? Even cry out to You, “Violence!” and You will not save. Why do You show me iniquity, and cause me to see trouble? For plundering and violence are before me; there is strife, and contention arises. Therefore the law is powerless, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; therefore perverse judgment proceeds. —HABAKKUK 1:2–4

So if you find it difficult to make any sense out of what is happening in our world, know that you are not alone. But like Habakkuk, the best option you have when you’re up to your chin in frustration and fear is to turn to God. The Lord sees what His people are going through and always has a plan to do what is best for them. When Habakkuk laid out his perspective to God, the Lord revealed His in return:

Look among the nations and watch—be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days which you would not believe, though it were told you. —HABAKKUK 1:5

We may be facing difficulties and hardships that are unprecedented from times in the past, but the Holy Spirit is still doing great works and God’s plan for His people is still certain. When I suggest that we may be living during the best period of human history, it is based on the fact that we are living in the fullness of the Spirit, the fullness of revelation (the Bible is complete), and the fullness of the times. Never has a generation experienced such power, understanding, and fulfilled prophecy.

God is not absent. He is working “all things…together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Rom. 8:28). God has a plan that far exceeds our ability to understand, but He has given us the Word of God and the Spirit of God, so we are not left in the dark.

Biblical prophecy is a bit like a jigsaw puzzle; you must locate the pieces and then fit them appropriately to see the big picture of what God is doing. Most people think biblical prophecy is primarily clustered in the Books of Revelation and Daniel, but if you look no further than that, your puzzle will be too full of holes to make much sense. Prophecy is found throughout the entire Word of God. Prophecy is more than the outer edges of the story. It is the whole story and must be taken as a whole.
