I Have Given You Authority

I Have Given You Authority

We must rebuke and bind the spirit of failurism in our life and command it go! We can walk ourselves through self-deliverance anytime daily. When we feel the effects of its manifestations, we can take authority over it. So how do we take command of it? What does it mean to rebuke and bind?

The King James Bible Dictionary says: to reprimand; strongly warn; restrain. In Matthew, Jesus rebuked the wind, and it obeyed …
Matthew 8:26 says, “And he said to them, "Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?" Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm” (ESV).
Here Jesus takes authority over the wind and the sea. We have that same authority to rebuke anything the enemy would bring against us. We must take authority, and Jesus said in John that we would do the works He has done and even greater works.

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. — JOHN 14:12–14, ESV

Boom! Jesus Himself has given us authority. He also said in Luke that He had given us authority!

The 70 disciples came back very happy. They said, "Lord, even demons obey us when we use the power and authority of your name!" Jesus said to them, "I watched Satan fall from heaven like lightning. I have given you the authority to trample snakes and scorpions and to destroy the enemy's power. Nothing will hurt you. — LUKE 10:17–19, GW

We have power and authority through the power of the Holy Spirit, just like the 70 disciples sent out. But most of the time, we don't realize our authority, so we don't walk in it. We allow ourselves to be constantly beaten up by the enemy and his schemes, but in the name of Jesus Christ, we have power and authority, and we need to rise up and use it.
What does bind mean?

I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. —MATTHEW 16:19, ESV

If what is coming against us is not of God and not of heaven, we definitely have the authority to bind it, take control, and loose what heaven says about us.
What does God say about us?

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. —ROMANS 8:31-39, ESV

This is what we declare and loose over our lives!
One thing that tries to keep us from walking in our authority is the spirit of intimidation. Intimidation is a killer. It will squash the Holy Spirit is able to work through you. We're intimidated most of the time, and we don't know it. We make our problems or the enemy's attacks out to be bigger and more powerful than they are, but God needs us to walk in authority and not fall prey to intimidation. If we're intimidated, we will not even fight for ourselves, and we will dive deeper into the spirit of failurism. When we take authority, it won't change overnight, but over time the enemy will get the drift that it's not going to work, and he will move on.
