God Made You Wait to Turn You Into an Elijah

In today’s world of instant communication, gratification and abundance all around, we can easily miss out on the power and the purpose of waiting. As painful as seasons of drought can be, they serve a purpose. The hardships that you believe will break you are actually the very things that will make you and turn you into a more powerful weapon for the Lord.

Elijah knew the importance of waiting on the Lord’s timing, which is why he remained hidden so long. As we have discussed, obedience to the Lord is important. Until Elijah prophets are given the unction of the Holy Spirit to move, they need to stay put. You need to trust that God is still preparing you for the challenges to come and wait on His timing—because when you emerge, it will be time for the showdown.

It had been three years—three years of drought, three years of waiting, three years of growing, three years of developing his relationship with the Lord, three years of wondering when the time to act would be. Then all of a sudden, “the word of the Lord came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, ‘Go, present yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the earth’” (1 Kings 18:1).

When the time comes for you to emerge into the season God has prepared for you, don’t be caught off guard. Know that there was a purpose in it as God was building you up to be more than a conqueror. through Christ Jesus.

To “present yourself” to the kings of the land carries a deeper significance beyond its historical context. In this generation, it speaks to a call to step into positions of influence and authority, both in the secular and spiritual realms. It signifies a divine commission to engage with leaders, decision-makers, and influencers within our spheres of influence.

In this generation, presenting ourselves to the kings of the land demands that we embody integrity, wisdom, and the Spirit of God. It requires a commitment to righteousness, justice, and compassion. We must be bold in speaking truth to power, unafraid to address societal issues and engage in conversations that challenge the prevailing norms.

Elijah’s season of being hidden away with the Lord had come to an end; he was ready to obey the unction of the Lord, and he did so immediately. The very next verse begins, “So Elijah went to present himself to Ahab” (v. 2). When you are walking in the spirit and power of Elijah and God tells you to go, you go. It doesn’t matter who the Lord is sending you to, how powerful they are, what they think of you, what they have the power to do to you—none of that matters in the face of the Holy Spirit telling you to go.

To this generation of prophets, the declaration “Elijah is here” signifies the awakening of a divine mandate and anointing. It serves as a reminder that the spirit and essence of Elijah, as a forerunner and catalyst for transformation, dwells within those who are called to prophetic ministry today. God is releasing new mantles of authority, the anointing to bring forth God’s messages, and the power to confront and challenge the prevailing spiritual climate.
