Does God See Me?
Eyes Like Fire, Part 1
They eyes of God see everything. "And not a creature exists that is concealed from His sight, but all things are open and exposed, naked and defenseless to the eyes of Him with Whom we have to do" (Her. 4:13, AMPC).
Nothing is hidden from God's sight. He sees all and is completely aware of everything. There isn't a single moment of your life, your thoughts, you sufferings, or your responses to God in righteousness that He doesn't see. God's eyes are focused on you even while He was forming you in your mother's womb. He was skillfully and wonderfully forming you in intricate beauty.
The Most Beautiful Thing in God's Eyes
The Lord then immediately spoke to me and said, "It is nothing in comparison to the joy I experienced when I created the unique beauty of every single human being." I was struck to my heart with these piercing words. I immediately felt the incredible love of God for every human, and my complete lack of properly seeing people as God sees them. I immediately cried out, "God help me see the beauty of each and every person the way you see them."
Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them. -PSALM 139:16
David reveals that every day of our lives has already been seen by God. This great mystery of God has baffled scholars throughout the centuries. How can we have a free will if God already wrote in a book all the days that were fashioned for us? Some take a very Calvinistic approach and say God sovereignly controls all the action of every person. Others say it is simply because God lives outside of time and therefor sees the end from the beginning.
Without getting stuck in a theological debate, I want to focus on a particular truth: that God is so intimately involved in our everyday lives that He knows each day before it happens. This great truth gives us amazing comfort because it reassures us that God has never left us or forsaken us. He is involved in our every decision and action. His eyes are focused on us day and night.
How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number that the sand; when I awake, I am still with You. - PSALM 139:17-18
You and I are not an afterthought to God. We consume His mind and heart; we are ever before Him.
Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works which You have done; and Your thoughts toward us cannot be recounted to You in order; if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. -PSALM 40:5
His thoughts toward us are driven by His love. He desires the best for all of us and is actively working those ends as we yield to Him.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. -JEREMIAH 29:11
God's workings are often strange to us, and many of them do not make sense to the human mind. We can trust in and rely on the truth that God sees everything. Nothing has happened that has missed his attention. With Jesus' having this ultimate vision and being the one filled with eternal wisdom, "we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose" (Rom. 8:28, MEV).
